I’ve decided to be proactive in answering this question.  It is a question that I have asked myself and it is only a matter of time until someone asks me.

According to the Mayo Clinic, there are 7 good reasons to exercise.  Let’s take a look at what those are.

  1. Weight Control – This is a given.  We all understand this but why?  Exercise burns calories.  The more we engage in muscle building activities, the longer we burn those calories.

  2. Helps to deter Health issues and disease – Exercise helps increase the good cholesterol (HDL’s) and reduce the bad triglycerides resulting in lower risk of heart diseases.  It can also help in the prevention or management of other illnesses like diabetes 2, stroke, metabolic syndrome and depression among others.

  3. Mood improvement – Exercise results in the release of chemicals in the brain that make you happier.

  4. Energy boost – Helps the cardiovascular system work more efficiently by providing more oxygen to the lungs and heart.  This results in more energy to the body.

  5. Better sleep – Who doesn’t want more of this.  Fall asleep faster and sleep deeper.

  6. Sparks the sex life – Women, it might be the kick start that you need and men, it could absolutely help with manly issues in the bedroom.

  7. It’s just plain fun – well, that is in the eye of the one doing the exercise but the more fun and variety you add in, the easier it will be to get excited about it.

Those are 7 good reasons to add exercise to your Healthy Living program.  In my opinion, exercise is the fountain of youth.  I am stronger and have more energy now than I have since I was a teenager.  I refuse to be a rocking chair baby boomer.  Who wants to join me?
